MQM cancels protest march; to seek assembly session

In respect of the mourning call for the loss of innocent live in Karachi, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Sindh Assembly members cancelled their peaceful march towards the Chief Minister’s House against the ongoing violence in Karachi on Friday.
Instead the party announced that its MPAs will gather in the Sindh Assembly building on Saturday to submit their requisite application.
The MQM’s Coordination Committee, during its meeting simultaneously held in Karachi and London on Thursday, had announced the protest march. While briefing the media about decisions taken in the meeting, Raza Haroon said it was not decided to give a strike call in the first stage of peaceful protest, but it has been decided that MPAs belonging to MQM will hold a peaceful march towards Chief Minister’s House on Friday.
For this purpose, an application would be submitted to requisite sessions of parliament for discussing the matter in the house and coordination will be made with other opposition parties in this regard. Protest rallies will be hold across the country and ‘if the government does not manage to stop attacks in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town and Gulfamabad then the MQM will give a peaceful strike call in Karachi.’
Within hours of this announcement, a statement issued from Nine Zero announced a ‘day of mourning’ across the country on Friday against violence and attacks on passenger buses in the city.
Meanwhile, the MQM has decided that its MPAs will reach the Sindh Assembly building to submit application to requisite a session of Sindh Assembly. The application will be submitted with Sindh Assembly secretary, who will forward the application to Sindh Assembly speaker.
A delegation of MQM led by Raza Haroon visited the residence of Sindh Assembly opposition leader Jam Madad Ali and discussed matters pertaining to mutual interest. They also informed Jam Madad that MQM’s MPAs will visit the Sindh Assembly on Saturday to submit application for convening Sindh Assembly session.
