Punjab Legislation Project goes online

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the website of the Online Legislation Project, “Awareness about Law for Everyone” at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The website will promote public awareness about laws and policies of various departments of the provincial government. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that online provision of information to the general public about laws of government departments was a revolutionary step of the Punjab government, which will help people safeguard their interests more effectively.
Shahbaz said that the Punjab law minister, chief secretary, law secretary, Punjab Information Technology Board chairman and all administrative secretaries deserve credit for the launch of the website. The CM said that the website will be updated on a daily basis. He said that the project was launched in May 2010 and in the first phase “Basic Legislation” has been completed while the second phase regarding “Devolved Legislation” will be started in April. Punjab Law Secretary Syed Abul Hassan Najmi, disclosing salient features of the website, said that every citizen had the right of access to information and the website was prepared with regard to the laws of the provincial departments. He said that 509 laws from 1860 to 2010 have been placed on the website.
Najmi said that all laws of the country were in English but their translation in Urdu will also be considered for convenience of the people. He said that people could get information about any law on www.punjablaws.punjab.gov.pk. Separately, Shahbaz chaired a meeting to review the parking plaza project in Murree. Punjab Communication & Works Secretary Major (r) Azam Suleman highlighted various aspects of the proposed parking plaza at Jhika Gali, Murree. The CM said that immediate measures be taken to protect the road from landslides so that tourists and local people could not face any problem. Also on Thursday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Sindh leader Salim Zia called on Shahbaz and discussed party affairs and PML-N’s membership drive in Sindh.
