SC dismisses appeal to cancel bail order of Hakim Zardari’s ex-manager

KARACHI – The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed an appeal of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to cancel bail order of Ali Hassan Brohi – former manager of President Asif Ali Zardari’s father Hakim Ali Zardari.
Presenting a report before an SC bench, comprising Justices Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Amir Hani Muslim, at the Karachi registry, Landhi jail superintendent stated that after receiving the court order, Brohi was released on December 1 last year and the police has no information of his whereabouts. The superintendent denied the allegation of Brohi’s further detention. The SC bench was hearing a petition filed by the ANF Sindh, challenging Sindh High Court (SHC)’s decision to grant bail to Brohi who was booked in a narcotics case and for land scam.
Representing the accused/respondent, Abid Zuberi Advocate appeared before the court and argued that his client had been granted bail in all cases by the SHC two months ago. He maintained that sureties have been furnished in this regard, but he has not been released. The petitioner’s counsel maintained Brohi’s family members awaited outside the jail, but Brohi never came outside. The counsel added that a police vehicle had entered the prison and left with the detainee.
After hearing all arguments, the court issued directives to prison authorities to submit a detailed report in this regard in the next hearing.
Brohi was arrested by the Anti-Encroachment Cell police in a land scam, whereas he is also wanted in a narcotics case.
The accused is charged with occupying huge portions of land in different localities and also encroaching parks and amenity plots in urban areas.
