LH CJ seeks lawyers’ help to combat corruption

LAHORE – Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry urged bar associations and lawyers to cooperate in eradication of bribery and corruption from courts and government departments with the same passion that was seen during the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of independent judiciary. CJ Ijaz Chaudhry, while talking to a delegation of Tax Bar Association (TBA) Lahore, said, “If lawyers start pointing out corrupt elements with a national mission, they can root out the culture of bribery and corruption just in days, not only from courts and government departments but also from the country,” The delegation, comprising of TBA President Muhammad Ijmal Khan, TBA Secretary Muhammad Aamir Nazir and other office bearers called on the chief justice in his chambers to bring in his notice the problems their bar faced. They also appreciated the sentiments and steps being taken by the chief justice for eradication of bribery and corruption from courts.
The CJ also stressed on the need of earning livelihood by lawful means, as unlawful income was the major cause of growing anxiety and depression in the society. “Income coming from illegitimate means brings restlessness and worries, while the lawful income gives peace, tranquility and unending calm,” CJ stressed.
