CDA to take ICT on board for bus service

ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on board regarding launching of bus service in Islamabad.
“This was decided in CDA’s board meeting and Traffic Management directorate has been asked to give the project’s presentation to ICT,” a CDA official said, adding that two local firms had already been approved for the project in the last meeting.
The bus service will start with 35 buses, each with a capacity of 70 people, and will run on four different routes-from Faizabad to secretariat, from sector I-10 to secretariat, from Faizabad to sector F-11 and BaraKhu to Aabpara market-the official said, adding that these routes will be discussed with ICT also.
Interest-free loan will be provided to companies for the purchase of these buses, he said, adding that the 16 routes being catered by private transport system comprising Mazda, Toyata Hiace and Suzuki were not sufficient to meet the needs of Islamabad and Rawalpindi which were growing at a rate of 4 percent per annum. Present population of Islamabad alone is 1.5 million, he said, with both cities having over 2.78 million people residing in them.
