It was Malik’s job to keep Benazir inside vehicle: lawyer

RAWALPINDI – Benazir Bhutto’s murder trial took another twist on Wednesday when the lawyer of former Rawalpindi police chief Saud Aziz said Benazir’s security adviser Rehman Malik (now the interior minister) was asked to stop her from coming out of the vehicle, but the instruction had not been adhered to.
Malik Waheed Anjum told a press conference that SSP Operations Yaseen Farooq “had informed Benazir’s security adviser Rehman Malik to bar Benazir from coming out of the vehicle and exposing herself, but the direction was not followed”. He said no evidence was lost by hosing down the crime scene, adding that only the places where blood was present had been washed.
The lawyer said the JIT should tell what type of evidence was lost due to the washing down of the crime scene. Anjum said the authorities did not conduct an autopsy on Benazir after they were stopped by her relatives. He said the former CPO had informed the Punjab IG that no autopsy was done on Benazir. “President Zardari also confessed in front of PPP’s top leadership of not allowing the autopsy of Benazir,” he said.
Meanwhile, an ATC sent Saud Aziz and former SP Khurram Shahzad on a 14-day judicial remand.
