Arrest everyone involved in human trafficking, Malik tells FIA

KARACHI: Taking serious note of the deportation of 106 Pakistanis, 54 from Punjab and 52 from Balochistan, at the Taftan Check Post, Interior Minister Rehman Malik ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general on Sunday to ensure that every last man involved in human trafficking is put behind bars.
He issued this order while presiding over a high-level meeting held at the National Crisis Management Cell in Karachi to review the grave issue of human trafficking, smuggling, and discuss the anti-corruption drive. The FIA DG, the FIA Balochistan director and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
Malik directed the FIA Balochistan director to pay a visit to the border check post and keep strong check over the smuggling of sugar and other commodities to Afghanistan.
The director was further directed to maintain close liaison with the Chaman Border Police for re-installing the biometric system as agreed the between Pak-Afghan governments.
Malik also ordered the suspension of an FIA shift in-charge at Islamabad airport on the complaints of two passengers, who had alleged that the FIA official had demanded Rs 20,000 from them. He directed the FIA DG to initiate a criminal enquiry against the shift in-charge and to register a case if he was found guilty.
