Lawyer moves reference against LHC judge

LAHORE: A lawyer has sent a reference to the president and the Supreme Judicial Council against a judge of the Lahore High Court for influencing a police case in favour of a naib qasid of his court.
Saeed Ahmed Malik moved the application against Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed seeking proceedings against him under Article 109 of the constitution for misuse of powers. Malik said that on September 23, 2009, a mob led by Mehmood and his son Akram attacked his property and demolished it on the pretext that a boy in the locality was found dead as a result of taking poisonous liquor.
He said a case was registered against Mehmood and his son, but incidentally, Mehmood turned out to be the brother of Manzoor, naib qasid of Justice Saeed. The lawyer alleged that on Manzoor’s request, the judge conveyed a message to SHO Ghalib Market police station through Assistant Advocate General Shan Gul on October 1 that investigation officer shall produce a record of FIR No 897 before him on October 2.
The lawyer said Investigation Officer Majeed Asghar had informed him of the development. The lawyer alleged that that on October 2, he checked the court cause list, but the case was not enlisted there, but the record was still brought to court. Later, the judge heard the case in his chamber, he said.
The lawyer alleged that Manzoor’s influence prevailed and he saved his brother and nephew from punishment.
