Imran demands Zardari’s resignation over Quetta killings

ISLAMABAD -

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday asked President Asif Ali Zardari to resign his office and immediately announce election schedule by accepting responsibility for the worsening law and order across the country, especially the blatant killing of innocent Hazara Shias in Quetta.

He was talking to reporters at a ceremony marking the joining the PTI by Javed Iqbal Satti, a prominent political figure of NA-50.

PTI President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, central leaders Ayla Malik, Naeemul Haq and Syed Israr Shah were also present on the occasion.

Imran said corruption and killing of innocent people in the country was at its peak, but the writ of government was nowhere to be seen.

"Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari cannot raise voice against each other’s corruption as both have joined hands in the name of reconciliation and both are concealing each other's malpractices. This is why Zardari did not task the FIA to question Nawaz Sharif in the Asghar Khan case while Nawaz also kept mum over the Rs 50 billion palace gifted to Zardari in Lahore," the PTI chief said.

He said Nawaz and Zardari should be ashamed of their wrongdoings and their lavish lifestyle through the misuse of public money.

Imran also took to task the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership, saying after enjoying the government for five years, the MQM had had jumped to the opposition benches just to seek their share in installation of caretaker setup of its choice.

He said the people should question all ruling parties, whether in the Centre or in provinces, about how much they acted upon their party’s manifestoes and where were their promises made by those parties in election 2008.

"The system based on injustice cannot survive for long. This is a government which did not deliver to the masses, did not serve the people and betrayed their promises," Imran added. The PTI chairman said the killing of innocent people in the name of Islam was unjustified.

He said that after his statements against Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Altaf Hussain, the people were advising him to remain conscious about threats to his life, but the people “should know that life and death are with Almighty Allah and they should also raise their voices against injustice without fear”.

The PTI chief said early elections were the only solution to the crisis being faced by the country.
