50% of teachers’ posts in schools lie vacant

LAHORE - Despite non existent infrastructure, non interest of authorities on education and a lack of teachers in government schools, public sector students hold distinctions. “Punjab President Association for Subject Specialists (PASS), Rana Atta Muhammad said that shortage of staff as well as lack of facilities at public institutions is a major cause of poor literacy rate and low quality of skills in the province. “How you can expect increase in literacy rate and improvement in quality of education in a situation where half of the posts of teachers remain vacant in government educational institutions” he said. He urged the government to provide basic facilities such as laboratories, research equipment, toilets and libraries to students in public schools Quoting results of FA/FSC annual examination 2012 and admiring the human potential in the country, he said that students of the government higher secondary schools were amongst the top three position holders in different boards of intermediate and secondary education in the province.
