SC seeks clear definition of ‘obscenity’ from PEMRA

ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday has sought from PEMRA a clear definition of the word “obscenity” in terms of TV channel transmission within two weeks.
A three-member SC bench led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the petitions filed by Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Justice (Retd) Wajih-ud-Din and others for hearing.
The court directed PEMRA that the definition of obscenity on the media should be determined within two weeks and presented before it.
The court also took notice of the appointment of acting chairman since long against the post of chairman in PEMRA and directed the information secretary to give an explanation on this matter within two weeks, after which the hearing was adjourned.
