Dhok Jumma, Alipur become home to rampant crime

Growing street crimes in Dhok Jumma have become a source of perpetual agony to the residents of the area. “With the advent of evening, every street of our area assumes a deserted look as the fear of becoming a victim at the hands of any dacoit or criminal starts gripping every resident”, said a school teacher Muhammad Sharif.
A shopkeeper Ali Muhammad said that he would shut down his shop along with others in order to avoid a misadventure at the hands of the thieves as incidents of looting shops had become a common phenomenon in the area.
A group of ladies who were visiting the market complained that they could not go to market alone or even in the form of groups because they would be deprived of their purses and mobile phones in a matter of seconds in broad daylight.
They added that this state of affairs had confined them to the indoors and they could not move to the market even to buy vegetables and other basic commodities.
Every day some motor cycle or a car was being lifted before our eyes and we could do nothing as the arms carrying criminals killed whosoever tried to intercept them, said a resident Muhammad Din.
We were forced to shift from this area as we could not leave our children at the mercy of the criminals and robbers, said a local Shafiq Ahmad.
Residents demanded a police operation against the anti social elements, criminals and thieves in the area, and threatened to go on the roads to hold protest demonstrations against the menace if the authorities failed them. Similarly, the residents of Alipur protested against increasing robberies and street crimes in the city.
According to reports, they said that the criminals were enjoying the patronage of police to commit crimes without any fear of prosecution.
“I was on my way back home from work when I was intercepted in my street by some criminal who snatched my wallet and mobile phone at gunpoint,” said Rashid a resident The residents have demanded from police high ups to transfer the patrolling staff out of the city and replace them with posting honest officers.
