Malik presents progress report on Rimsha case in Senate

ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Rehman Malik Friday said that transparent investigations will be carried out in the blasphemy case involving Christian girl Rimsha.
Presenting the progress report into the case in the Senate, the Minister said District Magistrate Islamabad is carrying on the inquiry into the said case. The Ulema of Islamabad Council were also involved in the inquiry as observers. He said some more details have come out regarding the case. According to one evidence Rimsha had not gone out of her home on that day and the ashes was taken from the stove, the younger brother and sister of Rimsha were carrying out.
He said the incident occurred on 16th of last month. The police took the girl into protective custody and transferred her to a safe place. Later, the medical board determined the age of Rimsha on the court’s order. He said according to the medical board she is fourteen years old and her mental age is seven to eight years. He said the prayer leader Khalid Jadoon was arrested on the charges of tempering the evidence.
The Interior Minister said the case is in the court and further inquiry is being carried out in this regard.
Replying to points raised in the discussion on law and order, the Interior Minister said after the passage of 18th Amendment, the law and order is the provincial subject and the centre cannot actively interfere in it.
On drone attacks, he said the government has very clear stance that these are counter-productive. He said the government has raised voice on every forum against these attacks.
The House was later prorogued.
