Pakistan sees drone strikes spike in August 2012

Drone 3

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan was at the receiving end of seven CIA drone strikes in its tribal areas during the month of August 2012, making it the highest number since October 2011.
According to ‘The Bureau of Investigation Journalism’, the total number of people killed in these drone strikes numbered between 29 to 65, including senior militants along with at least two named civilians.
All seven strikes happened in the days after the month of Ramadan ended, making the number of strikes this year rise, according to the bureau’s data which adds that there has been no let-up in strikes during Ramadan and Eid since US President Barack Obama came into power. In contrast, no drone strikes have ever taken place on either Christmas nor Easter.
The report said the August strikes ended after three coordinated attacks on August 24 which killed between 13 and 18 people including several named militants of Turkistan and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
