New provinces commission formed unilaterally: Ahsan

Ahsan-Iqbal

The information secretary of PML-N, Ahsan Iqbal, has said that the government has made the new provinces issue controversial by forming the new provinces commission unilaterally.
Talking to media after the meeting of PML-N's Core Committee, Ahsan said that the government is not serious about forming new provinces.
Saying that the resolution of the Punjab Assembly was neglected; Ahsan rejected government's offer for holding local bodies election before the general elections.
Ahsan Iqbal called lawlessness in Karachi a clear evident of the failure of the government.
During the four-year of the present government, the overall loan of the country peaked to 12 trillion from 5 trillion which resulted in high inflation, he added.

  2. Shumaila says:

It saddens me as a Pakistani to find our political parties playing hide and seek with the issue of creation of more provinces. Having agreed to the creation of the province of South Punjab and restoration of Bahawalpur as a province, why is the PML-N now dithering? Why is its leadership refusing to nominate its members to the parliamentary commission and restraining those nominated by the Speaker from attending its meeting to be held on August 28? If the PML-N has any sense of history, it will join the process to facilitate the creation of these two new provinces and not act as an obstructionist. The issue of Hazara and FATA can be addressed as demanded by the PML-N but first it should act on what has been already agreed by everyone including itself.

  3. Hamid says:

The vacillating stance of the PML-N on the creation of new provinces is hypocritical, to say the least. The reality is that the PML-N is not in favour of the division of Punjab province as it would erode its political clout and its main base of political support. But in view of a vociferous demand of the people of the area for the creation of a new province and a strong opinion in its favour at the national level, it does not have the courage to admit it publicly. The demand for creation of four provinces and the objections raised on the formation of the commission are clearly ploys to scuttle the entire exercise.
