ISLAMABAD - The trend of sending cards on Eid is fading over time and people now prefer to opt for E-card services and use Short Messaging Service’s (SMS) to greet their loved ones on Eid. People have started considering buying Eid cards, an obsolete method and prefer the easier method of sending E-cards and SMS.
Salma, a student at COMSATS said, “I do not the time to shop for Eid cards and send them to hundreds of my friends. I choose a nice SMS from the internet instead and send them to my friends and relatives.”
Owner of a bookshop at Aabpara admitted that the trend of buying Eid cards is diminishing with time.
He said, “A few years back, we had to hire extra staff to sell Eid cards. Their sale gained momentum after 15th Ramadan and Pakistan post services gave special instructions to people to dispatch their cards on time”.
“But, now those days are gone and with cheap communication in the country, SMS is the service most used for Eid greetings.
Waqas, a 4th year student at UET Taxila said, “With the sighting of the Shawwal moon, I send Eid greetings via SMS to my friends, this continues on Eid day and following day as well”.
