JI welcomes striking down of contempt law

LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan on Friday said the Supreme Court’s decision striking down the Contempt of Court Law 2012 was in line with the constitution of the country and the aspirations of the nation. The JI chief said the law had been cooked up to provide protection to the rulers and was in conflict with the Quran and the Sunnah as well as the constitution. “No such law can be framed or enforced in the country under the constitution.” He expressed hope that the Supreme Court’s decision would further strengthen the constitution and constitutional institutions.
