Vets suggest instant vaccination against Ranikhet

Veterinary doctors in Karachi have strongly advised bird owners to vaccinate their birds against the Newcastle disease, locally known as Ranikhet, on Wednesday.
Sindh Poultry Vaccine Centre Director, Dr Nazir warned that the disease could prove fatal if birds were not vaccinated at the earliest. According to him, the poultry industry was safe from the disease because most of the birds were vaccinated.
The disease has already killed a large number of birds, particularly wild peacocks, in Thar and has alarmed local experts. Birds affected by the disease suffer from loss of appetite, coughing, sneezing and diarrhea. The wildlife ministry said that it was supplying fresh water to peacocks in the affected areas to contain the outbreak.
