RTMA decides to take a jab at encroachments

RAWALPINDI - The Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) has imposed a fine of Rs 42,000 on 40 shopkeepers for encroaching upon public space.
Anti- encroachment staff of RTMA cleared all obstacles lined along busy roads when they visited Liaquat Road, Bara Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Road, Iqbal Road, Benazir Bhutto Road, Commercial Market, Muslim Town and Sadiqabad.
The staff seized12 pushcarts from Sadiqabad and Muslim Town areas.
They also visited Chah Sultan, Dingi Khoi and Bagh Sardaran and took into custody 100 tyres displayed illegally on roadsides.
A ban was imposed on the display of tyres in open spaces after a major outbreak of dengue fever in Punjab last year, because these tyres accumulate water and act as breeding ground for mosquito larvae.
Saif Anwar Jappa, the administrator of Rawal Town, took serious notice of the encroachments saying the pushcarts in the area created hurdles in the way of ongoing traffic.
