KCCI opposes two-day closure of industry

KARACHI - Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry has opposed the idea of the authority to close trade and industry in Karachi for two days and said it will ruin the business. In a statement issued here Monday, KCCI Mian Abrar Ahmad said that any proposal to withdraw gas supply to trade and industry and suggestion to cut 300 out of 650 megawatts of power from Jamshoro for Karachi was not acceptable to the business community. He said Karachi generates 68 percent revenue for the national exchequer and handles 98 percent ports activities for the country. This proposal would not only to ruin the Karachi’s trade and industry but will also discontinue production and foster unemployment, he added. He further stated that Karachi is being discriminated as no action of withdrawal of gas and electricity is initiated in Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa or Baluchistan provinces.
