LAHORE - The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Thursday announced it would observe June 28 as a day of solidarity with the judiciary.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting of PBC at the Lahore High Court Bar Association, PBC Vice-Chairman Akhtar Hussain said, “We are custodians of the judiciary and all bars will organise meetings on June 28 to express solidarity with the judiciary.” He said that restrictions imposed by various bars on some lawyers were suspended and stern action would be taken if anybody attempted such a thing in the future. “We deprecate the practice of immediate suspension of memberships from bar associations for any reason except in accordance with law and rules,” he added.
He also announced setting up a lawyers’ national co-ordination committee comprising the PBC vice chairman, provincial bar councils’ vice-chairmen, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president and high court bar associations’ presidents which would deal with important problems being faced by lawyers. He said that no other institution could form a parallel lawyers’ co-ordination committee as it was not authorised.
