Pakistan for transparent relations with the US: PM

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said only a politically stable country can successfully meet the objectives of its foreign policy.
Addressing the 6th convocation of National Defence University (NDU) here on Thursday, Prime Minister Gilani said instead of making unilateral decisions a country can become powerful if it takes everybody on board.
He said Pakistan wanted to have transparent relations with the US keeping in view its national interest and the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security.
The premier threw light on measures taken by his government to deal with issues related with foreign policy, economy, energy, and political stability.
He claimed his democratic government led the policy of peaceful coexistence by establishing good relations with all neighbors.
He noted the government was reinforcing a policy of reconciliation and negotiations and had resolved all national matters through national consensus.
He termed Kabul as an important capital for the world and said Pakistan supported such a reconciliation process in Afghanistan, which is reinforced by Afghan people and Afghan government.
He said, in regional context, trade relations with India were being restored.
He said peaceful, stable, and sovereign Pakistan was indispensable for peace.
About the condition of the economy, the premier said his government was successful in maintaining economic stability through rigid fiscal policy.
He said the government was implementing short-term and long-term plans to meet electricity shortfall.
He lauded the role of NDU in policy-making.
