History has a habit of repeating itself in ways good and evil. We have a classic case of Hazrat Umer-i-Farooq (RA) when he as Amir-ul-Momineen learnt that his son had drunk some alcoholic drink in Egypt and took suo motu notice of the case even though ruler of Egypt Umro-bin-Aas had the boy punished as per Shariah.
Hazrat Umer-i-Farooq (RA) said that the punishment to his son was not delivered properly and publicly. As such the governor of Egypt was asked to send the boy to Medina on camel’s back dressed in dress made of jute. When he reached Medina he was properly punished as per Shariah and as a result he died after one month due to severity of punishment.
Now we have a second similar case wherein the Chief Justice of Pakistan has hauled up his son and the financier before his bench to find out the truth of the case to decide it as per rule of law.
We are blessed with having a chief justice of upstanding character who wants to deliver justice in the case of his own son which is as per Islamic injunctions of doing justice even in one’s own case or in the case of close relatives. We should be proud of our superior judiciary which is the only beacon of light in the engulfing darkness in Pakistan.
We should pray that Allah Almighty bestows courage to the Chief Justice to rise above himself in the matter of delivering justice to his own son and a tycoon being mentioned in this case.
