LAHORE - A seminar on the ‘Pakistan Flood Resilience Studies Project’ was organised by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority at the PDMA Command Control and Communication Centre. PDMA Punjab Director General Mujahid Sherdil chaired the seminar and NDMA Chairman Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir was the chief guest at the occasion. The seminar was also attended by NIDM Director General Ahmad Raza Sarwar and DRM Director Zeb-un-Nisa. The seminar was organised to collect feedback from all the relevant stakeholders on the proposed ‘Guidelines for Climate Change Resilient Village Reconstruction in Punjab’. The stakeholders included NESPAK, Local Governement and Community Development Department, HUD and PHE departments, the Punjab Urban Unit, Punjab Chief Architect’s Office, UET Civil Engineering Department, Lead Pakistan and CDKN. The proposed guidelines were prepared by Mott McDonalds and were presented by a team of foreign experts, including Davey Lorna and Sam Jewers. They were accompanied by local experts from Mott McDonalds, Pakistan. All the stakeholders appreciated the efforts of the PDMA for formulating the guidelines with the help of foreign Mott McDonalds consultants. The initiative was also appreciated as such rural reconstruction guidelines were non-existent before. However, the stakeholders gave a number of valuable comments for improvements and better implementation of the guidelines within the specific socioeconomic and physical conditions found within the province.
