PML-N files petition challenging NA speaker’s ruling

SUPREME COURT OF PAKISTAN

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court against ruling by the National Assembly (NA) Speaker refusing to disqualify the prime minister.
According to a private TV channel, the petition challenges NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza’s decision not to disqualify PM Gilani as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, a month after the Supreme Court convicted Gilani of contempt.
PML-N leader Khwaja Asif, who filed the application, argues that the premier stands disqualified in light of the apex court’s verdict and that he should be barred from performing further duties as the prime minister.
