Nawaz vows to keep ‘third force’ out

Nawaz Sharif 8

LAHORE  - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Monday said his party would not allow any third force to take advantage of the political deadlock in the country and political matters would be resolved in a political manner.
Talking to a delegation of lawyers led by former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Asma Jahangir at his Raiwind residence,
Nawaz stressed that he was a supporter of the democracy During the meeting, Asma urged Nawaz to end the present political deadlock in order to ensure a smooth running of the system. Reacting to this, Nawaz admitted that the deadlock was not wholly unjustified.
Asma said she was well aware of the inefficiencies of the government and hence, wanted early elections.
Nawaz made it clear that his party had no personal enmity with President Zardari or Prime Minister Gilani. “However, the PML-N wants the supremacy of the constitution and democracy for which it will continue its struggle. The rulers want to crush the independence of the judiciary under their feet, which can’t be allowed,” Nawaz said.
He said the government would have to implement all verdicts of the Supreme Court.
The PML-N said a convicted prime minister was bringing a bad name for the country, therefore, he should quit immediately.
He said the PML-N wanted the appointment of an impartial chief election commissioner (CEC) for free and fair polls, but the government seemed least interested in this regard.
On the occasion, the guests invited Nawaz to attend the SCBA conference on May 26. However, he said he would make a decision in this regard in consultation with party leaders.
