‘Govt is working for 88% literacy by 2015’

LAHORE - Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said 2.5 million boy and girl students are getting computer education every year under the chief minister’s IT promotion programme. He expressed these views at a quiz programme of government schools at Children Library Complex on Saturday. The minister said the allocation for Punjab Educational Endowment Fund had been enhanced from Rs 2 billion to Rs 8 billion. He said the literacy rate of the province had increased to 62 percent due to education-friendly programmes of the chief minister, adding the government was striving hard to achieve 88 percent literacy by 2015.
