AIOU to set up study centres at district level

ISLAMABAD - Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has planned to set up study centres at districts across the country with lowest literacy rate for educating the children from Grade 1 to 10.
Talking to APP, AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir A Sangi said the university will establish the study centres under its project Rural Internet Support Programme (RISE) with the support of SUPARCO and National Education Foundation (NEF) to help increase literacy rate in the country.
The pilot project will be launched at two districts Umer Kot and Dassu where students will be provided education through internet, installing computers facility there, he said.
The university will conduct survey to know the literacy rate of different districts and establish study centres at different districts according to the requirement, he added.
Dr Sangi said the university has also initiated a project with the support of an NGO Plan International to provide education to the women of rural areas free of cost.
