LCCA to hold U-19 League from April 2
LAHORE - The Lahore City Cricket Association with the support of Amar Cables is holding the Under-19 Cricket League dedicated to cricket legend Imtiaz Ahmed.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, LCCA president Khawaja Nadeem Ahmed said that
Director Amar Cables Ahsan Amer Butt, Secretary LCCA Javaid Ali, Imran Bucha and LCCA treasurer Sarfaraz Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
Kh Nadeem said that the teams have been divided into two pools. “The purpose of holding this event is to consolidate the base of cricket in the city as it used to be,” he said and also thanked Amar Cables for their support in holding the league. Khawaja Nadeem said the one-day league aimed at creating a sense of competition among the three-affiliated zones whose best teams would be in action. A dozen of teams representing the affiliated zones have been drawn in two pools and three matches will be played daily at different venues.
Ahsan Amar of the sponsors said they had come forward to lend support to grass root cricket in the city and they are delighted to sponsor a tournament which will give a good platform to aspiring cricketers to test their skills. "It is just a good beginning to a good cause and we will continue our support to LRCA in future as well," he said.
LRCA Vice President Imran Bucha stressed the need for generating more activity at U-16, U-19, U-23 level to expand the base of the game in Lahore which was once known as hub of cricket activities. "Under-19 league is an important tournament to unearth fresh young talent," he said.
