PM announces high Civil Award for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy

Sharmeen

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced conferring a high Civil Award on Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on winning an Oscar Award for her documentary film 'Saving Face'.
‘Saving Face’ chronicles the work of British Pakistani plastic surgeon Mohammad Jawad, who performed reconstructive surgery on survivors of acid attacks in Pakistan.
More than 100 people, mainly women and girls, are disfigured in acid attacks every year in Pakistan, although groups helping survivors say many more cases go unreported.

I love to read this kind of news, newspapers should highlight like these news stories instead of the stories that are not good

  8. shhaid says:

  10. KhanSahab says:

Thats not something this crook president be proud of. Its a shame for him that during his so called democratic tenure he failed to adress this acid throwing issue. Instead of giving civil awards and prizes to her please do something for these victimised womens.

Thrilled that Sharmeen won that Oscar! However her honour is a source of both pride and shame for Pakistan, and should be particularly so for the people who are as usual trying to jump on the bandwagon of her success, the Prime Minister et al who will no doubt try to take some credit in some way. Much better, as Khan Sahab says, for the government to do something for those victimised women, to prevent such incidents for occurring in the first place. I'm not certain if Sharmeen should accept that award. It may make a more effective statement for her to refuse it.

    • Dr.M.M.Khan says:

I could not agree with you more. It took a shameful picture like this to get a nomination like this. Congratulations to Sharmeen and shame on us for allowing
such things to happen in the first place. Let us give the voiceless a voice.
