‘PPP rendered sacrifices for judiciary’s independence’

Firdous Ashiq Awan 5

ISLAMABAD - Information and Broadcasting Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Thursday that PPP had a history of struggling for the independence of judiciary and it rendered sacrifices for this noble cause.
Talking to a channel, she said, “No party ever rendered sacrifices greater than PPP during struggle for the independence of judiciary,” the minister said.
“Nobody knows the obligation for prestige of the judiciary more than PPP, and the PM has himself appeared in the court to ensure it,” she added.
She said that PM, by appearing before the court, proved that the government believed in supremacy of the constitution and respect for judiciary.
Prime Minister Gilani’s appearance before the court had also played down the wrong perceptions, she said adding it was an important day and the PM had proved that he was performing duties under the constitution.
She paid tributes to the leadership of pro-democratic political parties that reached the Supreme Court and expressed solidarity and said, ‘we also acknowledge important role of the media.’
She said the completion of Parliament’s tenure was the only way to overcome the challenges.
She said people had the right to bring about a change, however, it must be through ballot to ensure democratic consistency in the country.
