Diamir Bhasha dam foundation stone laying on Oct 18

gilani

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday said that the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Diamir Bhasha dam will be held on October 18.
Gilani said that he has convened two meetings on the project that requires Rs. 2 billion for completion, adding that the amount would soon be provided to complete the remaining work. He said that it is a mega project and the government brought it in the Council of Common Interest (CCI) to seek approval of all the stakeholders so that doesn't end up being politicized, like Kalabagh dam was. He added that the meeting of CCI was attended by the four chief ministers and all of them approved the project. He also said that the Diamir Bhasha dam was a dream of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and the PPP-led government was committed to materialize it.
The prime minister also said that all the mega projects, including Diamir Bhasha Dam, Thar coal, Lowari Tunnel, Neelum-Jehlum, Mangla uprising and others would be completed by the government.

  1. Anon says:

This project "requires Rs. 2 billion for completion"? Stupid!

It's a 272 high RCC spillway dam with 14 gates and 4500 MW hydro-electric generating capacity. In 2011 estimate the project cost is US $13 billion (or Rs. 1,100 billion) and 12 year completion time. The project is very critical for Pakistan but funding is not going to be that easy.

Why do these guys always mislead people with crafted words?
