Protest_Mumtaz-Qadri

LAHORE - The protests on the death sentence of Mumtaz Qadri continued on the second day on Sunday although the number of protestors fell significantly compared to Saturday.
The protesters threatened the president to acquit Mumtaz Qadri of the capital punishment imposed on him otherwise the consequences would be dire. They accused the judges of sentencing Qadri with death penalty under the government’s pressure. They threatened to extend protests to a higher level if their demands were not met.
The protesters, belonging to the Barelvi school of thought, demanded that the government should acquit the murderer of the slain governor Salman Taseer. Jamaat Ahl-e-Sunnat, Lahore Chapter and Anjaman Talba-e-Islam staged demonstrations in front of the Lahore Press Club. The protesters denounced the court’s decision and called it a verdict dictated by foreign powers. Ameer Ahl e Sunnat Professor Abdul Aziz threatened to boycott the politicians supporting Qadri’s death sentence. He said that the politicians were supporting blasphemy.
Another speaker compared Qadri and Raymond Davis and said that a blasphemer’s murderer deserved to be acquitted more so than a foreign agent who killed citizens. The protesters claimed that they would bring the government down if it did not free Qadri. The protesters also condemned American threats and said they were ready for Jihad against America.
