IGP orders special security measures for shopping centres

KARACHI - Sindh Inspector General of Police Wajid Ali Durrani has ordered strict security measures around busy shopping centres in districts of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur in view of the approaching Eidul Fitr
"The shopping momentum will increase now till Chand Raat and there is a need for an elaborate plan to provide security to shoppers," he said while presiding over a meeting at the Central Police Office on Tuesday.
He said that robbers, muggers and bandits become active in their targeted areas during these festivities and deprive people of their valuables.
The Karachi additional IGP and DIGs of Police Range Hyderabad and Sukkur were directed to keep a check on street crimes through their subordinate officers in the areas which prone to such incidents.
The IGP directed the additional IGP to deploy extra police force to give protection not only to customers but shop owners as well and set up watch towers and keep close liaison with lower cadres to boost their morale.
He also called for security measures around mosques and imambargahs and instructed police officials to remain vigilant particularly during Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Wida.
“We are also in touch with the high ups of the city government and other law enforcement,” he said.
