General Aftab Ahmed Khan dies

Lieutenant General Aftab Ahmed Khan, son of the late KB Mian Altaf Hussain, PCS (REtd) was born in October 1923. With his early education in Batala where he matriculated and his intermediate graduation from the Government College Lyallpur in 1940, he, armed with his academic degrees, left for the Indian Military Academy in Meerut (UP) where he received training.
He was commissioned in the second Punjab Regiment in June 1942. After a short stay at the Regimental Centre at Meerut, he was posted in the Western Desert (area of operations in the Middle East during WW2). He also served in Palestine and moved to Italy with his unit.
He returned in 1945, therefore being one of the officers serving longest overseas, gaining war experience. He commanded an infantry battalion twice, and commanded a Brigade at the Wagah Front in 1965 with the record of not yielding or losing an inch of territory to the other side.
