Book on Naxal movement launched

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) on Monday launched an Urdu publication titled “Naxal Tehrik Ki Ibtida Aur Farogh” (Genesis and Growth of Naxalite Movement) authored by Asghar Ali Shad. The author has given a detailed account about the atrocities of the guerrilla movement with facts and figures which claims to establish a Naxalite State within two decades and which the Indian PM Manmohan Singh has described as the greatest threat to Indian security. In India where Hindu extremism is gathering force is subject of another of his study on Saffron Movement which will also appear in book shape shortly. The book’s English translation will also appear shortly. The author has been working as a research fellow in IPRI for the last twelve years. He served the Centre for South Asian Studies of the Punjab University before joining IPRI. Shad who has a masters degree in history from the Punjab University is a linguist and scholar of Indian languages having command over Sanskrit, Gurmukhi and Hindi. At IPRI he specializes in research on India’s domestic politics. This is the study on which he regularly contributes articles to Urdu newspapers.
