CJP

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Saturday that providing justice to the people was the basic responsibly of the judiciary and the people were eyeing the judiciary for swift and easy justice and solutions to their problems.
He told the 1st Summit of All Pakistan Judicial Academies, organised by the Sindh High Court (SHC) in collaboration with the Sindh Judicial Academy, that the role of the judiciary was getting vital with every passing day and it was now up to the judges of the superior as well as lower courts to acquaint themselves with a better knowledge of human society to resolve the contemporary societal problems. He said that the constitution protected judicial independence to promote the rule of law and judges were expected to administer the law fairly without fear and favour.
Chaudhry said currently four judicial academies were in operation in the country, one each in the federal capital, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would also have its own academy soon. He said these academies are engaged with imparting training and orientation in law, judicial norms and etiquettes to the judges. About the syllabus of the academies, Chaudhry said that it should be approved after due deliberation by the board of governors of the Federal Judicial Academy to bring uniformity to the system.
He said the judges needed to be educated in new trends in jurisprudence, such as cyber crimes, environmental law, alternate dispute resolution, forensic science and criminology, local, national and international law during pre-service and in-service training from time to time.
Highlighting the importance of information technology, he said the judges should be computer-literate and judicial academies must specifically focus on imparting awareness about utilising information technology.
Earlier, he appreciated the efforts of SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam for providing a platform for the exchange of ideas by legal experts.
