At least 750,000 rich people to be brought to tax net

ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani have given green signal to government economic team to bring 750000 rich people into tax net.

Sources said the government economic team led by Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Sheikh gave detailed briefing to the president and PM on Thursday about the budget for the fiscal year 2011-12 and the targets set by the government.

The sources added that FBR had evolved a list in the perspective of tax reforms wherein 750,000 rich people had been identified who would be integrated into tax net under tax reforms.

The president and PM had allowed the finance ministry to bring them into tax net as integration of these people into tax net would add to the revenue collection to the tune of Rs 75 billion to Rs 100 billion annually.
