LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday hearing a petition against recent increase in POL prices as "objection case" directed the petitioner to bring impugned notification and the application which petitioner claimed to have filed with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra). With these directions the chief justice dismissed the petition filed by Advocate Mateenul Haq Chaudhry. Advocate Chaudhry had submitted that the impugned notification regarding increase in POL prices issued by federal government was unlawful, ineffective, ultra vires over the rights of citizens of Pakistan.
The petitioner said despite of pendency of a writ petition regarding increase of the oil and petroleum lubricants, the oil and gas regulatory authority (Ogra) and federal government were going to implement the impugned notification about increase in POL prices by approximately 9.9 per cent. He said the act of the respondents was cruelty and tyranny on the already crushed and downtrodden people of Pakistan. He said the matter was of grave public importance and the court should take notice of this on priority basis.
Petitioner, therefore, prayed that the respondents be directed to withdraw the impugned notification. He also requested the court that status quo be granted in the interest of public at large.
