ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has fined Samaa and Waqt TV channels Rs 1 million each for airing an interview of Mumtaz Qadri, the killer of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer.
A source told Pakistan Today that several TV channels had recorded the interview of Qadri, but only the said TV channels aired it, while others exhibited "responsibility". Meanwhile PEMRA has proposed a bill to ban discussions in TV talk shows on sub-judice matters.
The government has decided to retain two amendments in the PEMRA Ordinance introduced on November 3, 2007, as a third amendment is being added to the ordinance.
