ISLAMABAD - A three-member Supreme Court bench on Wednesday sought judicial inquiry report on the fake police encounters that occurred in EME Colony, Lahore and in Sialkot.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday was hearing a suo motu case initiated on a report of electronic media over fake police encounters in different cities of Punjab. Rejecting the settlement between accused and family of victims in Sialkot's fake encounter case, the court observed that proceeding should be initiated against the judge who accepted the settlement and released the main accused.
Additional Advocate General Punjab Khadim Hussein Qaisar informed the court that district and session judges had completed the inquiry on the fake police encounter which occurred in EME Colony Lahore. He told the court about the settlement between accused police officials and family of victims in Sialkot's encounter. Justice Khalilur Rehman also remarked that police might have compelled the family of victim for settlement. The court asked for judicial inquiry report and adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
