KARACHI - The launch of Benazir Mobile Banking will bring about a new era of development and ensure larger women empowerment, said Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Archives Sharmila Farooqui.
In a statement issued on Monday, the adviser said that the system would promote e-banking in the country and women would get access to major banking systems for the first time in the history of Pakistan. "With the launch of this banking system, the president has fulfilled another promise of development," she said.
The mobile banking service, named after the assassinated PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, is being introduced in four districts of Pakistan including Larkana, Layyah, Batagram and Musakhel. The service will also enable the users to register complaints regarding women protection and rescue.
Farooqui said the registered beneficiaries would be given free mobile phones by companies in collaboration with private banks along with 300 free minutes and Rs 100 free balance. The users of the mobile banking system would be able to know whether their cash grant has arrived or not while ensuring complete transparency in disbursement of grants, she added.
She said the system would soon be expanded to other areas as the PPP government is striving hard to defeat anti-democratic forces hatching conspiracies against the country and the nation. "There is a need to strengthen the federation and develop harmony among provinces as per the wisdom and vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who wanted to see Pakistan among the developed nations," she said.
The adviser urged political parties and people to continue fighting against dictatorships, terrorism and poverty to lead the country towards development and progress. She said that Benazir Bhutto was a leader of international level and world leaders have hailed her polices of peace, democracy and development for humanity.
Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of democracy, she said that many PPP leaders and workers are ready to sacrifice their lives for the cause of the country.
